Choose a Wire Stripper by Cable Size and Workload, Not Just Watts

Project guide

Cable dimensions come before motor power

Our current selection includes powered stripping machines listed at 60 W, 370 W and 750 W, with differing advertised cable diameter ranges. The most powerful machine is not necessarily the right choice for fine wire. A correct comparison begins with the cable's actual outer diameter, insulation and conductor type, then checks the specified range of each stripping channel.

For occasional scrap-cable recovery, setup time and reliable adjustment may be more useful than maximum throughput. For repeated volumes, feed rate, blade wear and available maintenance parts become more important. Non-contact voltage detectors, receptacle testers and zip ties serve different tasks: electrical checks and organization, not stripping.

Practical selection checklist

  • Measure cable outside diameter and identify the type of insulation and conductor.
  • Compare supported channel sizes, blade adjustment, feed rate and ability to handle your mix of cables.
  • Keep stripping operations away from energized cable; use an appropriate test method before electrical work.

Do not rely on a headline cable range if the specific shape or insulation is unsuitable. Follow the safety instructions and check any product-specific limitations.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 750 W stripper automatically faster for every wire?

Not necessarily. Feed and stripping quality depend on cable geometry, blade setup and machine limits. Match the machine to the work mix.

Can a non-contact tester prove a circuit is safe to touch?

No. It is not a universal substitute for the approved absence-of-voltage procedure and properly rated test equipment.

Which specification should I check first?

The supported cable size and stripping channels, followed by adjustment, wear parts and workload. Watts alone are not a selection method.
